IIM Elects New Chairman

10 September 2008

The IIM’s 7th Annual General Meeting took place on Monday 21 May 2007. As the more informal atmosphere of a private room at the Red Herring pub in the City close to the Guildhall was universally welcomed last year, it was decided to return there again for another visit.

At its AGM, IIM Members elected Tom Brass unopposed after Tony Evans had completed the maximum three years as Chairman. A chartered accountant, Tom is a respected champion of the Interim sector and vigorously represents the interests of those who have chosen a career as a professional Interim. He became an Interim Manager in 1997, following some 25 years' experience as an accountant and consultant within a "Big 4" firm serving international clients.

Tom takes a close interest in all public affairs matters affecting Interims, including legislation and regulation emanating from both Brussels and Westminster, and has been following the progress of the Money Laundering Regulations into UK law since they began life in 2004 as the draft EU Third Money Laundering Directive. He maintains a close working relationship on behalf of the IIM with government departments and explained to the AGM that HMRC is currently revisiting the definitions determining which Interims will be covered by the Regulations – reported on elsewhere in this edition of InterIM Insight.

At the AGM, Members emphasised the need for the IIM to increase its membership among professional Interims and to work with the Providers’ trade body, the Interim Management Association (IMA), to increase efforts to professionalise the sector across the board.

The formal business of the AGM also approved the Reports and Accounts for the year ended 31 March 2008, resolved that the subscriptions payable during the 12 months commencing on 1 July 2008 would be unchanged from 2007/08, and confirmed the other Board appointments, details of which can be found on the IIM website.

The formal proceedings of the meeting were followed by a short presentation by Mike Thompson, IIM Treasurer, on the results of the 2008 IIM Member Survey, and networking over a glass of wine and an excellent finger buffet. The survey results are also reported on elsewhere in this edition of InterIM Insight.
