Apply to Join
For individual membership, there is an on-line application form and process as outlined below:
- Complete the on-line application form including secure on-line payment of your assessment fee of £40
- You will receive an email requesting you to forward copies (PDF or Word) of the following documents to a given email address
- CV
- Company Registration
- VAT registration
- Professional Indemnity Insurance Certificate (This can be done after you become a member so that you benefit from the IIM discount but membership will not be active until we have confirmation of your PI cover)
- Record of your CPD over the last 18 months to two years or any key CPD from up to 5 years (Such as Prince2 or MoR etc)
- We check with your referees from the details you have provided in the application form
- Our assessment team considers your information and decides on the membership grade
- We add your membership grade to your profile
- We inform you of the assessment decision and invite you to complete payment of your subscription at the appropriate level. Your membership becomes active on completed payment. (If you use a manual process to pay, such as cheque, or bank transfer, this will cause a delay of up to 7 working days.)
- We also invite you to complete your full profile which may be viewed in the Member Showcase when you want it to.
- Your profile is viewable by Customers and Providers who may be seeking specific skills

Criteria & Fees
Membership of the IIM is open to any executive or professional who has made a conscious career choice to be a professional Interim manager.
Currently there are two assessed grades of membership Associate and Member – further details of which are set out below. The Membership Committee is currently formulating the criteria for a Fellow grade and it is expected that, in line with the latest government guidelines, the criteria will incorporate both academic and experience-based components.
The Institute may, at its discretion, award Companion status to any individual who, in its opinion, has made a significant contribution to the Interim management profession.
Your application will involve assessment of your management qualifications and experience by the IIM Membership Committee. If successful, you will be awarded an assessed grade of membership according to the following criteria:
Associate Member – AIIM
Associate status is appropriate to a director/manager who:
- Can demonstrate a conscious career choice to be a professional Interim manager AND
- Has a recognised management or professional qualification AND
- Has at least three years’ experience in board level/senior management positions OR
May be without such a qualification but has at least six years’ experience in board level/senior management positions.
Member – MIIM
Member status is appropriate for a director/manager who:
- Meets the criteria for Associate AND
- Is an established Interim manager, who can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the IIM a successful track record of Interim assignments
Code of Conduct and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
The IIM has adopted a Code of Conduct and a commitment to CPD, and expects members to abide by these. A copy of the Code is available by downloading from the links below. View our Code of Conduct
Membership Fee

The Institute’s Annual General Meeting, which is usually held in May. Any changes to fees agreed at the AGM will take effect from 1st July following the meeting.
The assessment fee is payable on application. The first annual subscription is invoiced once the assessment process is complete. Your Subscription renewal date will be annually on the anniversary of your first payment.
Overseas Members
Members who are permanently resident outside the United Kingdom shall be eligible to pay an Overseas Members’ Annual Subscription, which shall be equal to 65% of the annual subscription applicable to their membership grade.
Retired Members
- Members who have attained the age of 65 and have permanently retired shall be eligible to pay, at their option, either:
- Annually, the Retired Members’ Annual Subscription, which shall be equal to 20% of the annual subscription applicable to full Members; or
- As a one-off payment, a Retired Members’ Life Subscription, which shall be equal to the annual subscription applicable to a full Member.
Membership Upgrade
A member can apply at any time to upgrade his/her membership status if he/she believes that they satisfy the criteria for a higher grade. An Application Form must be completed and accompanied by the appropriate upgrade fee. If the upgrade application is successful, the new annual subscription will only apply from the next annual renewal.
Affiliateship
For Organisations such as Professional bodies, Recruitment providers or other professional services, the process is as follows:
- Initial discussion with a member of the Board This discussion will cover the benefits to both parties and what collaborations and activities are envisaged
- Complete on-line Application form (Affiliate) which includes the option of on-line payment
- IIM Board reviews your application
- You are informed of decision
- Payment arrangements are completed if not concluded on-line with application
- We exchange profile text and logo and hyperlinks
- Your profile is included in our home page rolling banners, our Affiliates pages and wherever appropriate in the Knowledge Centre
- You can have events and news posted on the IIM site
- You may post assignments without any delays for moderation.
