Member Involvement
As a member, you have a right to influence how the IIM runs. You can contact any of the Board members with suggestions. +44 (0) 800 030 4716 or email info@iim.org.uk. You can also put an update on our member survey at any time.
But why stop there? The more members who take an active part in running the Institute, the more successful we will become.
You are an expert in your field – that’s how you make your living as a professional Interim. How about sparing a little time to share your expertise with fellow members?
Whether you have 10 minutes, or are not on assignment and would like to help for a short period, here are some ideas for you to mull over:
| Introduce new members | Each member you introduce brings new revenue and new ideas into the Institute. You receive 1 month’s free membership for every member you introduce (Unless you are on the Board). |
| Attend and promote events |
We run many events throughout the year, bringing together Providers, Customers, Suppliers, IIM members and guests. Your attendance is what makes it worthwhile. The more people who attend, the richer the networking experience. |
| Take Part in some of our Training - | Our “Exploring Interim Management” seminar and “Walk a Mile in an Interim’s Shoes” both have sessions where the delegates interact with a seasoned Interim from the IIM. Would you like to come along and chat with prospective, new and recent Interims about experiences? Or maybe give Providers an insight into Interim Management from the Interim’s perspective? Contact Hilary if you would like to talk about this a little further. |
| Contribute to articles and features in the press |
The IIM is regularly asked for expert opinion on current topics and events. If you are interested in participating in talking to journalists or researchers, or writing a piece for any journals, we’d be delighted to make sure that you are put forward. Being featured or quoted in specialist or national media is a great way of enhancing your profile and reputation with customers. Contact Andrew Munro |
| Send us articles and links |
Keep your eyes open for interesting articles and features in your specialist area or in the national media. If you send them to web@iim.org.uk we’ll place them in the right sections of the website for members to access. This is a very important role because it helps us keep the website current and vibrant. |
| Recommend books or training | Let other members know about good business books and let Ad or Hilary know about any courses which you’ve particulary benefitted from. We’ll talk to the training organisation and try to negotiate a discount for members. |
| Become a Topic Editor for the Knowledge Centre | If you can find an hour or two a month to cast an eye over the content in your specialist knowledge area and to add and update articles, tools, models, book lists, courses, professional bodies or any other useful information, please contact Hilary Husbands or call 07739 391001 |
| Introducing Professional organisation contacts | We’re developing strong relationships with some professional bodies and would like to do more. Obviously as we are all Interims, we don’t always have the time to seek out new contacts to invite to functions or events. Your introduction could benefit many members. Please contact Ad or Hilary. If you’d like to talk to them yourself about our Professional Plus membership, supporting the Interim side of their members’ careers, then we’d be happy to support you. |
| Organise local Node meetings | It’s easy to fix up some dates at a favourite venue and add them in to the events calendar on this website. You can contact Ad about promoting them on the LinkedIn site too. Just call Hilary or Ad and we’ll set you up to edit events and talk you through it. Node meetings are very informal – they can be solely food and chatting or, if there is a burning issue, some lively debate. |
| Become a Regional Director |
Regional Directors don’t hold Board responsibilities and don’t have to attend Board meetings (although you will be welcomed if you would like to attend). It’s mainly about coordinating local events and finding local sponsors (often our affiliates or partners or other Service Providers) who can help support venue costs. We’ll give you an IIM email address so that you can keep things separate from your own business. Contact any Board member or call +44 (0)800 030 4716. We already have Regional directors in the UK and Italy and Canada. If you’re on a long assignment in Europe how about setting up a group where you are? |
| Take on a specialist Operational support role |
Activities such as PR and communications, or Specialist events/training organisation, can be run by non-board members. We welcome this involvement and if you have a strength or an interest in any area of IIM activity please let Hilary or Ad know. |
| Become a member of the Board |
The IIM Board usually consists of 5 – 8 members across a range of specialisms. A position on the Board gives you a very strong influence over the direction of the Institute. It does involve a commitment of your time to attend meetings, meet with Providers, professional organisations and others to develop relationships. You will also be required to roll up your sleeves from time to achieve outcomes. |
|
You can see from the above list that the more members who become involved, the better the outcomes. Otherwise a great many activities are spread across a small group of activists, leaving everyone stretched. |
|
Of course, as we develop our courses, events and membership numbers, we will be in a stronger position to bring in support. The IIM is your Institute and your support will contribute to our ongoing and increasing strength and success. Strong growth is the key to improving our services to members and to spreading the word to customers of the great quality of the IIM membership credentials.
